Peer to Peer Engagement

The interaction of learners among themselves needs to be improved in order to improve the completion of the programs. There is a need to identify challenges and opportunities in peer-to-peer interaction and develop effective strategies to improve engagement, increase completion rates, and enhance the learning experience.

Project Overview

Peer Engagement is defined as how a learner interacts with peers across different touch points in their learner journey.  A happy learner who engages with peers, completes the program will achieve the desired outcome

Objective

To drive peer to peer engagement to increase completion rate.

Design Process

Simplilearn has a large number of monthly active users. This large database gives us a lot of scope for doing the primary reseach through surverys, tickets, and, calls.
Upon doing such research on a sample size of 1500+ learners we have generated the following insights.

Research Goals

  1. To understand the learners pain point while using LMS

  2. To understand how comfortable learners are in connecting with peers

  3. To understand the motivations of various user personas and what completion means to these learners

Methodology:

  • Qualitative Research,

  • Focused Group

Criteria for shortlisting the participants

  • Completion less than 20%

  • Skipped few courses and jumped to last

  • Geo Location of Participants: India

  • Participants demographic: Mixed group

Research Outcomes

Better Engagement Driving Outcomes

  • Learners who participate in forums are over 25% more likely to complete courses.

  • Self introduction in introductory session helps in natural engagement

  • Polls and Discussion on polls helped in increasing engagement

Metrics to track

  • North star: Platform stickiness- WAU/MAU

  • Quality interactions within peers across different touch points

  • Quality posts within the community

  • Learner interaction time

Secondary Research

We did a market analysis for the competition analysis, academic publication and online resources.

Here are a few insights that we generated from the online resources and publications.

Key Takeaway from competitors

Analysing Ideas

We did a extensive user journey mapping to figure out the following:

  • User Activities at different level of the journey

  • User Goals

  • User Painpoints

  • Business Opportunities

Tracking these at the different touch points for the user during his journey from pre-learning through their learning phase and then untill the post learning pahse for the users.

As we already have a lot of users so we did a user survey and calling to figure out user queries and feedbacks at the different points in their journey.

Possible Interventions

Out of multiple ideas chosen we squared up on a few of them and created a decision matrix to find the feasibility and impact of each ideas. We ought to roll out each ideas as per priority and in phases.

Ideation & Design

Quick Wins

The following features are live on the website

  • Learners intro during the cohort

  • Open discussion rooms through zoom

  • Discussion within the OSLs

The designs were developed and made live and the response of the learners were very overwhelming. The learners loved the discussion rooms and it had helped them greatly to communicate with their peers.

These features greatly contributed in improving session CSAT from 3.9 to 4.2 which is a big win.

Future designs for integrating community is in works and will be released in next updates
